Exposure must be balanced. Underexposure can weaken the stencil and cause premature breakdown, while overexposure may close small details. Pinholes, damaged edges, incomplete washout, and contamination should be corrected before the screen reaches the press.

4. Set Up the Shirt and Register Every Color

Place the T-shirt smoothly on the printing platen and use an appropriate temporary adhesive or holding method to prevent movement. Confirm the print location in relation to the collar, side seams, and garment centreline. A test print should be completed before the approved shirts enter production.

For multicolor designs, register every screen so the layers meet accurately. Small alignment errors may create visible gaps, overlapping edges, or blurred text. Consistent platen loading is as important as screen alignment because a correctly registered press cannot compensate for shirts placed differently each time.

5. Apply Ink With Controlled Squeegee Pressure

Flood the screen to fill the open mesh, then make the print stroke at a controlled angle, speed, and pressure. Too little pressure can leave weak coverage; excessive pressure may spread ink beyond the stencil and reduce edge definition. The screen off-contact distance, ink viscosity, squeegee hardness, and mesh tension should remain stable during the run.

Multicolor prints may need brief flash curing between layers. The purpose is to stabilize the previous color without overheating the fabric or fully curing the print too early. 6. Cure the Print Correctly

Curing allows the ink system to form the bond and durability intended by its supplier. Measuring only the dryer setting is not enough; the printed ink layer must actually reach and maintain the required curing condition.

An under-cured print may crack, wash away, or feel tacky. Excessive heat can discolor fabric, distort garments, cause dye migration, or damage elastic components. Production teams should establish curing settings through testing rather than applying one temperature to every garment.

7. Inspect and Test the Finished T-Shirts

Inspection should cover print position, color, opacity, registration, edge definition, stains, pinholes, hand feel, and garment damage. A cured sample can be stretched or flexed according to the intended fabric, and wash testing should follow the agreed care instructions.
